Johnstown Castle

Southeast Ireland | County Wexford

Johnstown Castle is located 6 km south west of Wexford Town and is well signposted on the road N25 (Wexford - Rosslare). This 19th century Victorian castle and its beautifully maintained ornamental gardens were designed by Daniel Robertson, the architect who is famed for his work in Powerscourt House and Gardens and Killruddery Gardens in County Wicklow. Surrounding parkland contains over 200 varieties of trees and shrubs, and extends to 40 hectares. On its grounds there are three lakes, two Gothic towers, ruins of Rathlannon Castle, walled garden and statue walk. The old farm buildings are location for Irish Agricultural Museum, which has impressive collection of artefacts related to rural life in the past. Unfortunately Johnstown Castle itself is not open to the public, but gardens and museum make a wonderful day out for all the family - whatever the weather. Additional attraction is the resident family of peacocks, proudly strolling on the castle's grounds.

The Peacock Tea Room offers range of delicious refreshments including light lunches and selection of coffe and cakes.
